How to Keep Your Marble Bathroom Pristine | Life Beyond the Reveal

Reveal day was fun, wasn’t it? You remember it fondly as you prepare for your Saturday night soak in your luxurious tub. Ever since your bathroom reorganization a few months ago, you feel like you are stepping into your own personal spa…incredible! Everything has its own place, and you feel completely confident in your space.

As you sink beneath the bubbles and feel a wave of calm sweep over you, a smudge catches your eye and makes you suddenly wonder…

“Have I been cleaning this tub properly?” Your eyes travel to the white double sink, fearing you’ll find the same smudges and water stains. “Hmm, there is room for improvement,” you begrudgingly admit.

Organizing and cleaning go hand-in-hand. Keeping your bathroom in pristine condition doesn’t just delight your eyes, it is also necessary for maintaining a healthy home. Read on for our top tips on maintaining the marble in your own spa getaway, ensuring it remains a place of pure relaxation. (Or just forward this email to your favorite cleaning company…we won’t judge).

1 | Seal the Surfaces

Always use a sealer on your marble surfaces. Sealer is recommended to help prevent marble and grout from taking on stains, including water stains. Use a non-acidic cleaner prior to sealing the surface, as any acids will eat through sealer, leaving your marble vulnerable to staining. Also, be sure to use a grout-cleaning rake to remove any grime or stains from the grout before you being any sealing.

2 | Freshen the Floors

To keep your bathroom floors spotless, vacuum thoroughly using a soft brush attached as to not scratch the floor. Next, mop with a VERY diluted ammonia or dish soap mixture (make sure your floors are sealed before mopping to prevent water stains). Whatever you do, always use a pH neutral concoction and avoid using rigid scrub brushes or cloths. Everything that touches your marble surfaces should be soft and gentle. Marble is a luxury and requires a little pampering. But, hey, don’t we all?

3 | Treat Stains with Care

If a stain becomes embedded in a marble surface, use a mixture of ammonia and hydrogen peroxide (don’t add or mix any other cleaners). Soak the stain for a half hour and rinse with water. Buff any etches with a marble finishing powder. Dry promptly with a soft towel. The Marble Institute of America recommends rubbing any scuffs or etches with a tennis ball, which is soft enough to gently solve the issue.

Organizing Tip #1

Don’t be matchy-matchy

Marble patterns are showing up everywhere, including on ceramic and plastic organizer bins. Resist! Don’t try to match your organizer bins to your marble pattern but opt for clear or woven solutions to offset the hard and solid colored surfaces.

Organizing Tip #2

Style your shelves

If your heavily-used cosmetics or hair products need to be kept at-hand at all times, transfer their contents to glass bottles and display them in a single row on open shelving. Organized and pretty win every time!
