Let’s start your next bedroom makeover.
Your bedroom is your sanctuary, a place where the noise and hustle fall away. The gentle breeze floating past your airy, linen drapery transports you to a simpler time…a time that beckons you to curl up barefoot on your bed with a book. When you lean against the headboard and wrap up in a blanket, you feel something that you definitely need to feel more often: Peace.
While peace isn’t something you or I can manufacture, we can certainly create the right environment for it. The soft furnishings we craft in our workroom, from window treatments to upholstered furniture, are all meant to evoke just the right feeling in each space of your home. The bedroom is certainly no exception.
Today, let’s explore one of the biggest statement pieces in the bedroom:
The headboard.

1 | Tufted
One of the most popular upholstered headboard designs is the tufted headboard. It adds depth, texture, and character to the bedroom and works well as a comfortable backrest for all your late night reading. Tufting options include diamond, biscuit, button, blind, and channel. The one you ultimately select will depend largely on the aesthetic of your space and the overall size of your headboard.

2 | Durable
Headboards can be upholstered with linen, cotton, velvet, and other fabrics – though durable options are often best. Crypton or Sunbrella fabrics make for stain-resistant, upholstered headboards that will stand the test of time, sunlight, and regular use. We nearly always select these durable fabrics when upholstering children’s headboards or cribs. Fortunately, both Crypton and Sunbrella offer a variety of colors and patterns, so they won’t limit the overall design of the piece.

3 | Engineered
Not all headboards are connected to the bed itself. Some are wall-mounted, which works well if you want to add a headboard to your existing bed. Regardless of whether your headboard is integrated or wall-mounted, you also must consider the height and width of the design. Tall, grandiose headboards are beautiful statement pieces, and shorter but wider headboards can almost act as a wall covering or backdrop to your bedroom.
Design Trend
Earth and spicy.
According to Home & Garden, interior furnishings are seeing, “a return of earthy tones, like beige and rust. Bold hues are still warm and inviting, echoing nature’s spices like hot paprika and golden turmeric.”
Design Tip
Don’t be too vanilla.
Your soft furnishings, whether window treatments, upholstery, or bedding, don’t always need to be neutral. Sometimes the best thing you can add to a space is a bold, unexpected pattern or pop of color.
